The brainchild of Scottish-Canadian and award-winning visionary Jason Wilson (Wilson & Swarbrick), Ashara presents a joyful blend of Scottish folk, global roots and reggae. Wilson, who provides vocals, acoustic guitar and piano, is joined by legendary Jamaican-Canadian guitarist Carl Harvey (Toots & The Maytals), and Wilson band members, saxophonist Marcus Ali, vocalist Laurel Tubman, drummer Vince Reel and bassist Michael Shapinko. Then the kicker: the project offers a rotating cast of award-winning Scottish trad musician as special guests, that includes formidable Highland piper Ali Hutton. With Ashara, Wilson and co. artfully reimagine songs from both the folk and reggae canons while boasting strong originals including ‘My Love Sings like a Lintie’ and ‘An Evening in Paris in Cumnock Tonight’ which feature on the eponymous album.
