The Town of Stouffville is proud to host its first Small Business Week celebrations from October 20 to 24, joining communities across Canada in recognizing the essential role small businesses play in shaping our economy, culture, and community identity.
Small Business Week is a nationally recognized opportunity to celebrate the resilience, innovation, and impact of entrepreneurs. In Stouffville, we’re taking this moment to spotlight our local business community, explore the challenges they face, and provide practical tools to help them thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape.
According to the 2024 York Region Employment Survey, which surveyed 893 businesses in Stouffville, 78 percent are considered small businesses, meaning they employ between one to 19 employees. These businesses are the backbone of our local economy, contributing to job creation, community vibrancy, and long-term prosperity.
This year’s celebration comes at a pivotal time for our town. Stouffville’s historic downtown, the Village of Stouffville, is preparing for a major revitalization in 2026 as part of the Town’s Downtown Revitalization Project. Recognized as the heart of our community, this historic area is a central meeting place and shopping destination for residents and visitors alike and is mostly comprised on small business owners. The Town’s Official Plan emphasizes maintaining this vibrant hub as the primary focal point of the community, and that vision is now becoming a reality.
